The video clip below is of MoonDance, a live ceilidh band with whom I regularly play drums, captured here in full flight at the Broadstairs Festival, Kent in August 2008.

MoonDance provide a truly unique ceilidh experience. Imagine the accessibility of traditional dance music combined with power of rock and funk music. Unlike many ‘electric’ barn dance bands, the MoonDance sound is more than just an acoustic folk band grafted onto a pub-rock rhythm section. The music has been developed as true fusion of the best of traditional and modern dance rhythms.

The band is augmented on this occasion to include a four piece brass section, including sax from Ian Blake, visiting from Australia. The rest of the line-up is Brian Heywood (guitar), Tom Fairbairn (keyboards), Mark Knight (violin), Andrew King (bass), Sam McEvoy (percusssion), Alison Heywood (sax), Alex Heywood (trombone), Roger Watson (caller), Tim Walker (trumpet) and myself, James Asher (drums).
