Decade 20 released November 11th 2020. Though this collection is presented as being an album, it is formed by a series of single tracks written and assembled during 2020.
The decade has begun with a highly unexpected year, and in many ways with a less than auspicious start. The title track Decade 20 was written prior to the developments that transpired in March, and paints a highly optimistic and energised view of the times ahead.
Hearing the Call has an African flavour and suggests a ceremonial celebration, with vocal chantings against a rhythmic backdrop. Yes it is! is powered by a driving global rhythm, and re-echoes the positivity and optimism of the first track. Equally beat driven, though leaning a bit more towards a funky jazzy feel is Hot on the Spot.
The mood becomes meditative in Celestial Runway and allows a chance to either just to breathe or actively explore breathwork techniques. It has been used by David Dorian Ross for his Tai Chi online class, where it made a perfect fit.
The remaining tracks maintain energetic adventures and as earlier in the collection should suit followers of conscious dance. It can be hard to slot music neatly into the various genres and categories that are available, and as composer I aim to follow ideas without constricting myself with concerns about whether they fully fulfil the expectations around various tags.
It has been very encouraging and informative whilst evolving these tracks to have direct contact with and feedback from Adelle Brownlee Brewer and Joanie Brooks from the Synergy Studio, San Antonio, Texas. Understanding how the music can contribute constructively to their Nia Freedance and breathwork classes is both insightful and inspirational.
My hope is whether you use the music for dance or just enjoy listening, its energy and ideas will be an enlivening and mood-lifting process.
